EL Falcon – Workshop Manual
FORD FALCON EL – 1996-1998
The EL Falcon was launched in 1996, a time when Ford was at the top of its game and way ahead in the Ford v Holden rivalry battle. It was the last model prior to the disaster-ridden AU that sent Ford into a financial meltdown.
$40 million was spent facelifting previous models including cosmetic changes – grilles, headlights, bumpers, tail lights plus thicker tinted glass and dash insulation (to quieten) and new seats (increased headroom) as well as huge improvements to the suspension and steering that greatly improved handling.
Both the 4.0-litre single overhead camshaft six-cylinder engine and the 5.0-litre overhead valve V8 were available.
The 4.0-litre was available in both the 4 speed auto and the five-speed manual gearbox. The V8 was only offered with the four-speed auto.
