FORD FALCON – EARL YEARS
From 1960 to 2016 Ford Australia produced the Ford Falcon, a full-sized vehicle. Following the phase-out of the American Falcon in 1971, which had been locally re-engineered and badged for the tougher Australian climate as the XK to XY series Falcon. Each Falcon and range of derivatives were conceived, produced, and constructed in Australia since the XA series of 1972. Beginning in 1965, the Ford Fairmont luxury vehicle was added to the lineup. The Ford Fairlane and LTD were luxurious long-wheelbase derivatives that debuted in 1967 and 1973, respectively, with manufacture ending in 2007.
Ford Falcon Production
In seven generations up until 2016, more than 3,000,000 Ford Falcons and derivatives were produced, the majority of which were sold in Australia and New Zealand but also in South Africa and several RHD Asian markets.[1] The Falcon previously dominated police and company fleets, as well as taxi fleets in Australia and New Zealand, together with its closest Australian-built rival, the Holden Commodore.
